Welcome!...To the 11th annual edition of the Sand Nativity. It is located at the intersection of Piazza Marconi & Via Bafile on the Jesolo lido of this quaint coastal community, which is situated along the north coast of the Adriatic in Venice, Italy.
The exhibit will be open from 10:00 to 22:00 daily, from December 08, 2012 until February 03, 2013.
Admission is free to all. We typically have over 100,000 visitors annually.
| 1500 tons of premium sand is rendered
by a select team of 13 international master sand sculptors. Assisted as
ever, by a contingent of students from the art academy of Venice. Other
decoration and tech aspects are provided by the really great crew from Jesolo
The premise of the sand opera is "A Day In The Life" of the old-world Middle Eastern region. Culminating at the manger scene in Bethlehem, moments after the birth of Jesus.
The format will be presented as a walk-through exhibit inside a large, purpose built (heated) tent. Scenic set paintings will compliment the sand sculptures this year, to create a truly immersed experience as guests meander along twisting streets and narrow alleys filled with various scenes of daily goings-on in the old city of Bethlehem. 90 figures, and dozens of animals are carved in sand.
| The show is actively created from 15
November through 07 December.
The inauguration and grand opening will be on December 08, 2012.
You can see past editions of this fine show in The Nativity Archives.
Our sister show, also created in Jesolo each summer (of various themes), can also be seen at the Sculture Di Sabbia Archives.
| We hope you may visit the show in person,
as photos do not do justice to the art, but we will also track the progress
of construction here on this site in the "PHOTOS" section
to be developed as the show progresses.
We thank City of Jesolo as ever, for presenting this show & allowing us to create this wonderful project each year.
In any case, on behalf of this year's team and myself we hope you may enjoy seeing it either live & in person -or online, as much as we enjoy creating it.
